Josh Harper

Attorney Josh Harper helps people who are injured at work or who have been hurt in car wrecks or other accidents.

He has been selected for the Super Lawyers: Rising Stars list for North Carolina in 2024 and 2025.* He has also been selected for Best Lawyers in America for Personal Injury from 2022—2025.*

Working with his father, Richard Harper, at The Harper Law Firm, PLLC, Josh has helped many clients with workers’ compensation claims, including complicated death claims. He has successfully represented clients at hearings before the North Carolina Industrial Commission and in appeals to the Full Commission. He has also volunteered to help write amicus briefs in important workers’ compensation cases at the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.

Josh also helps people injured in car wrecks, truck wrecks, snow sports accidents (skiing, snow tubing, etc.), and other types of personal injury cases. He has experience in both state court and in federal court.

He helps injury victims from all over the mountains, including the Asheville and Boone areas, Waynesville, Sylva, Cullowhee, Franklin, Canton, Cherokee, Murphy, Robbinsville, Andrews, and Hickory, and has also helped folks from other states who were injured while they were in North Carolina.

Background, Education, & Military Service

The oldest son of attorneys Richard and Patti Harper, Josh moved to the mountains of Western North Carolina when he was four years old. After growing up in Sylva, he went to college at UNC-Chapel Hill and graduated with distinction.

After college, Josh joined the U.S. Army. He served as a paratrooper and military intelligence officer. In 2012, he deployed to Afghanistan. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. 

 Josh went to law school at Wake Forest University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and ranked in the top 5% of his class. He received awards for earning the highest grade in six classes, including Workers’ Compensation and Torts (which includes personal injury law). He was also on the editorial board of the Wake Forest Law Review.

Josh began his career as a lawyer at one of the largest law firms in North Carolina. While there, he worked on complex business cases. He has also worked at a leading personal injury firm in the Asheville area, where his practice focused on helping people injured in wrecks involving collisions with tractor-trailers.

Josh and his wife are the proud parents of five kids. When he isn’t playing baseball with his oldest son, cheering for his daughters at dance recitals, or getting apple juice for toddlers, Josh enjoys lifting weights and reading historical fiction.
